  1. As I listen to these eposodes, I see Ron Smith’s art in my mind’s eye, and remember how freakin’ uncanny it was. Like, it was uniquely uncool and cool at the same time, you know? The gangly, splayed postures of his characters—Dredd included—along with the gaping mouths and the toothiness and bulging lips, gave everyone a gawky appearance. And the way he drew the judge uniforms only accentuated that. As I visualize it, I realize now that it had a funk sensibility, which makes sense given the time when he made it. And despite all that, it was so freakin’ badass! Is it just me, or do you get what I mean?

    1. Ron Smith is great, one of my favorite artists for sure. His attention to detail and ability to draw both the beautiful and the ugly is second to none! Otto Sump, introduced here, is always a fave, and I think it’ll be for the giant spider invasion story Black Plague where I say “No one destroys Mega-City One like Ron Smith.”

The podcast Everything Comes Back to 2000AD did an interview with him a few years ago that I highly recommend: https://ecbt2000ad.libsyn.com/ecbt-2000ad-episode-113
