Collection 1 – The Cursed Earth

Judge Dredd heads out into the deadly wastes of the former United States in The Cursed Earth, the first in our series of Space Spinner Collections! These collections have all of our coverage for a specific character or storyline, all in one place. They’re a great accompaniment to reading collected versions of 2000AD, or to just hear your favorite thrill all in one place.

This week we load up our Land Raiders to head to Mega-City 2, and fight all the mutants, giant rats, dinosaurs, and relics of the old world that get in our path. You can find Judge Dredd: The Cursed Earth in both digital and paperback formats at the 2000Ad web store:

  1. It’s fantastic reminiscing about the Cursed Earth stories by listening to you two. I didn’t remember the Burger War stuff or the mascot stuff, and what you said about the lawsuits makes sense. The Eagle comics I read in the eighties wouldn’t have included those, yeah?

    1. Nope, the Burger War was only in the original progs until 2017 when they released “The Cursed Earth Uncensored” which had the full version of the story. They even put evil Road Warrior Ronald MacDonald on the cover!

I’ve later learned that weren’t any lawsuits just worry about lawsuits! You have to remember all of these early comics are in the shadow of the UK comic Action, which was cancelled because of public outcry about a questionable cover (We did a spinoff series about it on this feed, the Space Spinner ReAction episodes) so the publishers are very nervous about anything else getting them in trouble. At the same time there was also some outcry about the comic Inferno, also in 2000AD at the time, where a character pours gasoline over another character and threatens to set them on fire! It’s a kind of dodgy time!

    2. Also, we haven’t talked much about the 1980s Eagle comic, but some friends of ours from New Zealand have! Their show is Where Eagles Dare, and they’ve covered the first 100 or so issues of Eagle, so all that Doomlord/Dan Dare/everything else stuff! They’re here or on all the podcast apps.
